Sincerity vs Truth Part Two

(This article has been put together from different portions of “The Second Greatest Lie Ever Told” By Mark Cahill)

After assessing the works of religious groups previously, lets now see some quotes from some famous people on why the topic is so important:

Barack Obama said in an interview with Cathleen Falsani,

“I believe there are many paths to the same place, and that is a belief that there is a higher power, a belief that we are connected as a people.”

Pope John Paul II said,

“It will be in the sincere practice of what is good in their own religious traditions and by following the dictates of their own conscience that the members of other religions respond positively to God’s invitation and receive salvation in Jesus Christ, even while they do not recognize or acknowledge him as their Saviour.”

During the Dec. 8 ABC program co-anchor Cynthia McFadden asked the President (George W. Bush) if he believes that his prayers are directed to the same God “that a Muslim prays to.”

“I do,”  Bush said.

“That’s gotten you in some trouble with your base,” McFadden responded.

“Maybe it does,” Bush said. “I do believe there is an Almighty that is broad and big enough, loving enough, that can encompass a lot of people.  I don’t think God is a narrow concept.  I think it’s a broad concept.  I just happen to believe the way to God is through Christ, and others have different avenues toward God, and I believe we pray to the same Almighty-I do.”

Oprah Winfrey said on one of her shows,

“One of the mistakes that human beings make is believing that there is only one way, and that we don’t accept diverse ways of living in the world.  There are many paths to what you call God… and her (lady in the audience) loving and kindness and generosity brings her to the same point that it brings you, it doesn’t matter if she calls it God or not… there couldn’t possibly be just one way.”

Tony Blair said,

“God’s Spirit moves through us and the world at a pace that can never be constricted by any one religious paradigm.  Be very wary of people who think theirs is the only way.”

Well now, after only taking a simple look at the several belief systems previously, we know that all of those statements from these famous people cannot be true.

You have probably seen this COEXIST bumper sticker before or some form of it:

The goal of the COEXIST movement is for there to be better understanding between religions-particularly the Jewish, Muslim and Christian religions.  It is the old adage, ‘Can’t we all just get along?’  But what do we do when religions’ beliefs contradict each other about how to get right with God?

I saw on a website that the most common first name for males in America is James.  So let’s say we walked into the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA for a sold out football game, and there are over 90,000 people there.  You get on the public address system and ask everyone with the first name of James to stand up.  What do you think would happen?  One person would stand?  Two?  A bunch of people would stand up!  Now even though all those guys have a body, head, toes, fingers, feet, etc., are they the same person?  Of course not.  They are completely different-from different families; different jobs; different addresses.  Sure they have the same first name, but they are all entirely different.  I find that to be the same case with religions.  We use the same name “God” but once you look at the God and the religion even briefly, you see they are each so different from the other ones out there.  And remember back to the beginning of these articles that this is one area that none of us want to be lied to about!

As we research each of these religions to find out about their God and what they say happens when we die, one of our discoveries was that they all come down to a book or some writings that comprise their belief system.  As I began to think about this, a lot became clear in my mind.  All someone would have to do to find out the truth is find out which of the religious texts contained the truth, and then everything else that you needed to know would flow from there.  So some research was needed.  As I began to look at different religious texts, there was one book that stood out from all the rest.  It was the Holy Bible.  The facts that backed it up were just astonishing…
